Welcome to Kinema Club

Kinema Club is an informal group of scholars studying Japanese cinema and other moving image media (our name comes from a famous Taisho era movie theater in Kobe). We formed out of the shared need for bibliographic information. Indexes and bibliographies of Japanese language film resources are slim at best. In an effort to surmount these problems, we collect and share tables of contents for important periodicals. A further stumbling block for our research is finding and using the books and periodicals held by libraries outside of Japan. East-Asian collections are surprisingly weak on media like film, television, computers and popular culture.

When we were offered part of this server to put our information on-line, we thought it might be an opportunity to share what we have and build a resource that makes the research into moving image media relatively painless. Since everyone studying East Asia also enjoys films, we hope that you'll find Kinema Club a useful resource. If anyone has information they would like to share through Kinema Club, please contact us. We have other ideas we're working on, so come again and see what's evolving!
